Every so often I have to get political
Until our government provides for all of its residents, we have no business proclaiming that we’re the best country on Earth. Most Conservative viewpoints I’ve encountered say that a free market will work everything out.
But we have lots and lots of homeless people, and lots and lots of gun crimes. While those two things are still true, I don’t think I can ever vote Conservative.
I’ve looked over all of the viewpoints of the three remaining (likely) candidates for U.S. President, and this is the person I’m rooting for:
Candidate A
Candidate A agrees with me on these things:
- raise the minimum wage and index it to inflation to make sure that full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation, and housing
- require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own
- get broadband to every community in America through a combination of reform of the Universal Service Fund, better use of the nation’s wireless spectrum, promotion of next-generation facilities, technologies and applications, and new tax and loan incentives
- network providers should not be allowed to charge fees to privilege the content or applications of some web sites and Internet applications over others
- protect tax cuts for poor and middle class families, but […] reverse most of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers
- The best way to press Iraq’s leaders to take responsibility for their future is to make it clear that we are leaving
- have a specific focus on transparency, by ensuring that each arm of the federal government makes its records open and accessible as the E-Government Act requires. The CTO will also focus on using new technologies to solicit and receive information back from citizens to improve the functioning of democratic government
- Redefine “broadband:” The Federal Communications Commission today defines “broadband” as an astonishingly low 200 kbps. This distorts federal policy and hamstrings efforts to broaden broadband access
- improve mental health care at every stage of military service
Which candidate group of ideas are you rooting for?
