credit score problems

Maybe somebody out there could help me with this. I’ve got a faulty report on all three of my credit reports, reflecting a “charged-off” acount from Verizon Wireless. Long story short: they admitted it was their fault, they sent me a refund of the balance of the account, even, and they said they’d clear it up with the credit bureaus.

I noticed last year that it wasn’t cleared up, and tried filing appeals with all three credit agencies. All three came back and told me the information was accurate.

It’s about two years later, and it was never cleared up. Months and months of late payments are showing up, and I was never truly late with a payment. I’ve spent a cumulative eight hours on the phone with Verizon Wireless (all. over. the country) and get this: they have no record at all of the account ever having existed.

Now, supposing you’re me, and you certainly don’t have the funds to hire an attorney, what would you do? Would you write a letter? To whom? What would it say?
